In the southern scenic areas, small towns have service stations or supermarkets offering simple meals. Some hotels also serve dinner (advance booking is recommended). As resources are more limited outside the capital, we suggest buying some snacks or food in advance at a supermarket.

We recommend wearing windproof and waterproof outer layers with warm inner clothing. Pants should also be warm and wind-resistant. Waterproof hiking shoes or comfortable walking shoes are ideal. Gloves and a hat are essential. You may also want to bring a raincoat depending on the weather. Iceland’s weather can change quickly, so please watch your step and stay safe.

Card payments are widely accepted in Iceland. It’s recommended to bring a VISA or MASTER credit card. There’s usually no need to exchange for Icelandic króna or euros, though carrying a small amount of change can be helpful. Tax refunds are available for purchases over 12,000 ISK.
